Driver message - "Device SWD\PRINTENUM\WSD-ac6d314b-1fe8-48c9-92c4-aa388ab30e98 requires further installation."

But Driver menu states driver is up to date with no option to update the printer driver.

Hi @Marcy35,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That message means Windows installed a generic WSD (Web Services for Devices) printer driver, which often lacks full functionality and can show “requires further installation.” Even though Device Manager says the driver is “up to date,” it’s not the correct HP driver for your printer.

Here’s how to fix it:

Step 1: Remove the WSD Printer

  • Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click the printer → Remove device.

Step 2: Install HP Full Feature Driver

  • Download the correct driver for your printer from HP: 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Choose your printer model and install the Full Feature Software and Driver package.
  • Restart your PC after installation.

Step 3: Disable Automatic WSD Driver Installation

  • Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners → Add a printer.
  • When adding, select Add manually → Use an existing port (USB or TCP/IP).
  • Choose the HP driver you installed, not the WSD one.

Step 4: Verify in Device Manager

  • Under Printers, you should now see your printer with the HP driver name (not WSD).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
