Dear HP
I have a simple BW laser jet, for quick and easy jobs. I initially installed it using HP Easy Start. When the wifi connectivity started playing up, I decided to try a USB connection. This is where my problems really started!
Easy Start will no longer work, even though I downloaded the latest version. It prompts me to download the HP Smart app, then hangs up. I went to HP website to download HP Smart app (which took over half an hour, I do not have fast wifi). This also does not work with my OS (Mac OS 10.13), it hangs up during the process of trying to install a printer. Diagnostics in HP Smart doesn't work (is not even available in the app).
Installing the printer with my Mac System app, using a generic driver also didn't work. Finally, the AirPrint driver for MacOS came up and I was able to install using that. A whole morning's work, and none of the HP resources or software were any use at all. Why can't we just download a print driver as we used to? The 'Smart' wizard apps are very dumb indeed when they don't work 😞

Hi,

Please follow below version of HP Easy Start, as soon as it launches open the top HP Easy Start menu and select Uninstall HP Software.

Follow the steps on screen and then click on Set Up New Device and follow the steps to reinstall the printer:

As soon as HP Easy start prompts to install HP Smart, close HP Easy Start and press the Skip to Software Download button, then follow the steps on screen to complete the installation and check for any difference.
