I have owned an HP Envy 5530 printer since 2017.

The label on the back of the printer says its serial number begins with CN4B******

But when i enter that number as my device's serial #, this site replies that the number is not valid.

But...it is! That's what the label says!!

Does anyone have any clues how to get around this or should I just forget about it? It seems to be a loose end not worth tying up.

It's a loose end - Ignore it.

A few examples...

-------------------- --------------------

HP Support  HP World-Wide Support

In-Warranty Products – Case submission for Warranty Repair

Select your region and follow the prompts

As far as HP Support is concerned, the serial number doesn't exist because the printer is out of Warranty.

Meh.

You don't care; you are not going to talk to HP about a printer from 2017.

HP Support Assistant might kick about an invalid serial number only because the app might be trying to check your Warranty and cannot do that. This is "kind of" related to HP Support not recognizing your serial number.   Ignore it.

Next,

-------------------- --------------------

HP Account - Management / Device Lists / Warranty and Product Information

HP Account - Login / Dashboard

HP Device list, Cases, Warranty information, How-to / Troubleshooting, Product and Service information, Add or Delete a device

Aged devices (printers and computers) might also balk at being added to your HP Account device list.

Oddly, once added, presumably when the device was new enough to be "seen" by HP, old devices can persist in your HP Account device list for years.

Next,

-------------------- --------------------

“HP Smart / HP Connected” - Printers added to ePrint / Print Anywhere

Management / Options

HP Smart / HP Connected

Note:  Website might take 1-10 seconds to open

Click Flag to switch to your region

Printers added here are generally only those printers that support ePrint -- or, for newer printers, Print Anywhere

Older Printer - old ePrint
