Problem - HP smart app provides more choices under the "paper type" and "paper size" categories when first installed. After the 1st print, the "paper type" only offers Plain paper and HP papers as choices and "paper size" also lost some of it's choices. When this happens it no longer prints correctly for a 4x6 photo or thick cardstock paper. Paper is not feed and set properly under printheads - 1/4" before printheads. Photo is cut off 1/4" at beginning and blank 1/4' at end.


Details -

Major issues with this printer. Ink printheads don't go into maintenance position when opening the cover. Ink cartridges became clogged, probably due to not using for a short period of time - had to clean at least 20 times. Losing a LOT of ink on trying to resolve these problems.

This one problem I can't resolve. Started with photos not centered on 'other glossy photo paper'. I watch what happens, feeders pull paper up to 1/4" short of where it should be. Then the printheads start printing and the feeder starts slowing feeding paper, it finally gets under printheads and then finishes. Result is first part of photo is cut out and the last part is blank on paper - 1/4". If I print with the exact same setting, with the same photo paper put in backwards, it works perfectly. If I print the exact same settings on a thin card stock, it prints perfectly, thick card stock has same issues. Tried everything, cleaning anything I could, etc., etc.

This 'try' proved to work. I completely uninstalled the hp smart app and printer. Reinstalled both, new driver etc. When I first printed I had a lot more choices under the "paper type" and the "paper size" categories. Under "paper type" I chose 'thick photo paper' and it worked. I watched it come through and it lined up properly under the printheads. I went to print again and when I went to "paper type" there was only plain paper and a few HP choices. I also noticed the "paper size" were less choices, but it still had 4x6. So then I uninstalled the HP smart app only and reinstalled it, same results - more choices first print only. I can recreate this problem every time. Soon as all the choices are gone, the problem reappears.

I would sure appreciate if anyone else has experienced this? Has any ideas what else I can try, I think I tried everything so far. I called support and was on the phone with them for at least 10 hours and 4 different support people. They don't have a clue, so they will be replacing printer since still under warranty. My concern sending it back is my ink is pretty full and they can't confirm I will be receiving new ink with this replacement printer - plus how long am I going to be without a printer. So frustrating.
