Hp smart tank 5106
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have just set up my new smart tank 5106 and all set up fine and working but there is a constant low pitched beep every second which seems to be coming from a sensor in the scanner?  Any ideas why or how I can switch this off?  Or is the printer faulty?  Driving me insane.

Hi @3chris70,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

That constant beeping can indeed be quite annoying! It's possible that the beeping is an indication of an issue, such as a sensor malfunction or an error in the setup. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check the User Manual: The user manual for the HP Smart Tank 5106 should have a troubleshooting section that addresses common issues and their solutions. Look for any mention of beeping sounds and follow the recommended steps.
  • Inspect the Printer: Take a close look at the printer and scanner to see if there are any obvious issues, such as loose parts or obstructions in the scanner area. Sometimes, a small piece of debris or a misaligned component can trigger beeping sounds.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches or errors.
  • Check for Error Messages: Look for any error messages or warning lights on the printer's control panel. These can provide valuable clues about what might be causing the beeping.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that the printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs or issues that cause beeping sounds.

By going through these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the beeping and hopefully resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
