I cannot get this printer set up. I got to the point where I put all the ink in the different Wells, and when I try to go install the printer heads, the heads don't go to the middle, and I noticed that there is a black cartridge. The air will not go away, even though I have reset the printer several times by shutting it off and holding down the on button. I'm ready to take this back to Best buy, no printer should be this hard to set up. It also wouldn't recognize my internet to hook it to Wi-Fi.

Hi @Dawn19669710

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're having a frustrating time with your HP Smart Tank 6001 setup.

Let’s try to address the issues step by step:

1. Printhead Installation Issue

  • Manually Move the Printhead Carriage: If the printhead carriage doesn’t move to the center automatically, try gently moving it manually (with the printer powered off) to access the slots for installing the printheads.
  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure there’s no packaging material or debris blocking the carriage.
  • Reset the Printer Properly: Instead of just holding the power button, unplug the printer from the power source for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Black Cartridge Error

  • Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the black cartridge, clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall it securely.
  • Run a Diagnostic Test: Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to run a diagnostic test to identify the issue.

3. Wi-Fi Connection Problem

  • Reset Wi-Fi Settings: Restore the printer’s network settings by holding the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button together for 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
  • Use the HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart app on your phone or computer and follow the guided setup to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Check Router Settings: Ensure your router is set to a 2.4 GHz band, as many printers don’t support 5 GHz networks.

I understand how frustrating this can be, and if it doesn’t improve, returning it to Best Buy might be the best option. Let me know if you’d like further assistance! 😊
