Recently I had a problem printing. I use the Print & Scan Doctor to try to fix the problem. What a mistake! It told me to reinstall the software for the printer. When I tried, the installation failed. (Several times!) I followed additional instructions for changing the startup configuration, safe boot, etc. Nothing has worked.

I can print, but the scanning software is not there. I can scan from the printer, but the OCR option is unavailable.

I have wasted several hours trying to solve this problem. I need the scanning software to be on the computer. I bought and paid for my printer, and all is as it should be... except the software.

The only error message I have seen that made any sense said that I was not an administrator on my computer, which is nonsense.

 

If anyone can help... Please do!

Me, again.

I also use a MacBook Pro. I can print AND scan from that computer. However, the OCR option is not available.

Is there a way to get that option on a Mac?

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

 

What is the exact model of the printer you are using?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

 

Install HP Scan extended on your Win PC and check if that helps.

Click here to download.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
