I have had my tango for a while and it sometimes will not connect to my MAC. so normally I have to complete erase the tango and and set it back up as new. But this time I can't even download the firmware or driver.... is my tango trash now? I noticed that its discontinued. I cannot connect with the printer IP or anything.

Hi @Wilkins08,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're correct in observing that the HP Tango printer has been discontinued, and in some regions, certain services like firmware updates and software downloads may become limited over time. However, your device is not "trash" — there are still a few options we can help you explore that can help us get the device back on your Mac device to print.

1. Use HP Smart App (Still Supported)

HP recommends using the HP Smart app for setup and printing.

📎HP Smart
Steps:

  1. Disconnect from any VPN.
  2. Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
  3. Open the app and click “Set up a new printer.”
  4. Make sure your Tango is powered on and in Wi-Fi setup mode (press and hold the Wi-Fi button until it blinks).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect.

2. Reset Network Settings on Tango

If the printer isn’t showing up:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button and Power button together for 5 seconds.
  2. This resets the network settings.
  3. Try reconnecting via HP Smart again.

3. Use AirPrint (No Driver Needed)

macOS 15.5 supports AirPrint, which works without HP drivers.

Steps:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click Add Printer (+).
  3. Select your Tango printer (should show as AirPrint).
  4. Click Add.

4. Firmware Update Issues

If you can’t download firmware:

  • Try using a Windows PC to update the firmware via HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
