HP Tango, bought in 2019. Always had issues and had to reconnect multiple times to use it. Haven’t used it in months because I wasn’t in school. I’m about to be back in school so I turned it on and tried to get setup but the control panel itself does not work. The light indicates that it should be connected and ready but the app says it is unavailable and I cannot troubleshoot this because all of the options involve working buttons - which my printer DOES NOT HAVE. I have been sitting here for over an hour exhausting my options. Is this just a hardware issue? Do I no longer have a functioning printer?

Hi @mbwn0310,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Tango printer relies heavily on the HP Smart app for its operations, and it has minimal physical controls. If your HP Tango printer's control panel is not responding, and the printer appears connected but is unavailable in the app, it could be due to several issues including network connectivity, software glitches, or hardware problems. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer by unplugging it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Reset Network Settings:
- To reset the network settings on the HP Tango, press and hold the Wi-Fi button (on the back) and the power button together for 5 seconds. This should reset the network settings and the printer will attempt to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi:
- Open the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
- Follow the prompts to add a new printer. Make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network that you want the printer to connect to.
- The app should guide you through reconnecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Update or Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device.
- If the app is already up to date, try uninstalling and then reinstalling it.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes issues can be resolved by updating the printer’s firmware. You can check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Select your printer.
- Go to the settings or printer maintenance section.
- Look for an option to check for firmware updates and follow the prompts if an update is available.
Network Configuration:
- Ensure that your router is functioning properly and that the network signal is strong where the printer is located.
- If possible, try moving the printer closer to the router to ensure a stable connection.
Check for Printer Status on Different Devices:
- Try accessing the printer from a different device using the HP Smart app to determine if the issue is specific to one device.
Factory Reset the Printer:
- If other troubleshooting steps fail, you might need to perform a factory reset. This can often be done through the HP Smart app, but since the app currently shows the printer as unavailable, you may need to follow these steps:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the power button simultaneously until the printer restarts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
