Just wondering, Windows 10 is now more than 1 year old, but still even the newest printers like M477 work with the basic feature set only. All those shiny things (like scan to computer with self defined scan tasks, e.g. searchable PDF, etc.) are not working anymore.
You even say so in the readme:
Windows 10 32-bit and 64 bit
Internet installation – PCL-6 print driver, WIA scan driver, HP AIO (device companion application), and HP Scan Capture (delivered from Windows App Store)
Thats the same as the Basic software solution for Windows 7:
PCL 6 print driver
WIA scan driver
HP Scan Extended
And no -> the app "Hp Scan and Capture" is not a replacement for the printer assistant software, not at all!
Please, PLEASE think about doing something about this, and bring us back the printer assistant software.
The problem is, e.g. Epson software is working in Windows 10, fully featured! No setback, just because you are using the latest operating system. *don't troll about this, it's not part of the topic, Thanks!*

Hi,
nope I did not install the drivers on a Windows 7 machine, as I dont have an computer with that operating system.
And still, it says in the Specification Table @ Printer Management:
Printer Administrator Resource Kit (Driver Configuration Utility, Driver Deployment Utility, Managed Printing Administrator); HP Web JetAdmin Software; HP Proxy Agent Software; HP Imaging and Printing Security Center; HP Utility (Mac); HP Device Toolbox (Win 7)
So there is and was a HP Device Toolbox there, and yes, I am more than sure, that this would have the missed feature.
But no, I will not make a VM with Windows 7 just to be right here.
The software is not the point here, the feature, previously presented by HP in the HP Device Toolbox, is missing.
And I want to have somekind of explanation, why this is not being implemented since 2012.
I was hoping, that others with the same expaction would be active here. But it seems, I am rather alone with this.
So my fault starting this, I am sorry.

Well HP Scan Extended is not the sought solution.
I want the pro for professional in my printer back, and for this it is time for HP to recognize that with their current software, they are not going to do it.
No Windows 8 support, No Windows 10 support. Come on.
All those shiny things (like scan to computer with self defined scan tasks, e.g. searchable PDF, etc.) are not working anymore.

Hi,
Can you scan with HP Scan Extended?
If so, try the following and let me know if that may help:
Go to C:\HP_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M477\Setup\Core\Iris_OCR.
Right click on IrisOCR.msi and select Install
Now open HP Scan Extended, may it now include the option to scan as editable text or to select Searchable PDF for the Save as PDF option?

The problem is not that I can not scan on my computer. This does work flawless already with the provided default HP Scan utility.
The problem is, that I want to scan from the printer to my computer using the printer only!
A normal feature for Windows 7 and impossible for Windows 8 and Windows 10.
So since 2012-10-26 HP is not able to provide a replacement for this feature.
Other firms, e.g. Epson, already had an solution right at the start of the new operating systems or did fix it rather soon.
So still the question is for @HP: Why do you not provide a replacement software for your professional printer line?

Hi,
HP Printer Assistant is the sofware for HP Inkjet printers, not for HP Laserjet printers.
I'm personally more familier with consumer products, for those scanning from the pritner itself is only supported for Inkjet printers, not for laser printers.
I assume the same apply for Commercial Laserjet models as yours, this is according the datasheet as well, no Scan to Computer option is listed for Scanner Advanced Features:
http://www.hp.com/sbso/hpinfo/newsroom/HPSMB2015/HPColorLaserJetMFPM477fdwDatasheet.pdf
Were you actually able to scan from the printer itself using Windows 7 by selecting Scan to Computer?
Additionally have you tried setting up scanning to a network folder to launch a scan directly from the printer screen?

On Windows 7, Scan to Computer works for HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier.
On Windows 10, Scan to Computer will NOT work on the same printer on the same network.
What this really means is that in small workgroups, one cannot direct a scan from the printer TO any desktop that is running Windows 10! One CAN initiate a scan FROM such a desktop using workarounds but the printer function is crippled.
So much for workgroup suitability!
