HP LaserJet 1020 Printer

I love my HP 1020.  I've had it for years and it has never failed me.  Suddenly, after a Windows update, it no longer works.  I've reinstalled the drivers, I've gone down rabbit holes from Google searches and it still doesn't work.  Anyone else having the same issue?  Any suggestions?  I'm running Windows 10 Pro; OS Build 19045.3570, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19052.1000.0.

Hi @toddpay,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When did the update happen?

Have you made any changes to your OS or software recently?

If your HP LaserJet 1020 printer is not working properly with Windows 10 version 19045.3570 despite reinstalling the drivers, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Compatibility Mode:

  • Right-click on the printer driver setup file and select "Properties."
  • Go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select a previous Windows version (e.g., Windows 7 or Windows 8).
  • Click "Apply" and then "OK."

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP LaserJet 1020 that are compatible with Windows 10.
  • Install the updated drivers. Click here

Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Open the Settings app on your Windows 10 computer.
  • Go to "Update & Security" and then click on "Troubleshoot."
  • Find and run the "Printer" troubleshooter.

Restart Print Spooler:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type "services.msc" and press Enter.
  • Locate "Print Spooler" in the list, right-click on it, and select "Restart."

Remove and Reinstall Printer:

  • Open "Settings" and go to "Devices."
  • Under "Printers & scanners," select your HP LaserJet 1020 and click "Remove device."
  • Disconnect the printer from your computer.
  • Reinstall the printer using the latest drivers.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows 10 is fully updated. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and click on "Check for updates."

Driver Signature Enforcement:

  • Restart your computer and during the boot process, press the F8 key to enter the Advanced Boot Options.
  • Disable "Driver Signature Enforcement" and then try reinstalling the printer drivers.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the official HP website. It can automatically diagnose and resolve printing problems. Click here

Check for System File Corruption:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will scan and repair any corrupted system files.

If none of the above solutions work, consider reaching out to HP phone support for assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
