Hi @Richardofnorth ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP2800 printer is not offering the option to print in color, but only in black and white, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

  1. Check Printer Settings:

    • Ensure that color printing is enabled in the printer settings on your Mac. Go to 'System Preferences' > 'Printers & Scanners' > select your printer > 'Options & Supplies' > 'Driver' or 'Options'. Verify that color options are correctly set.
  2. Update Printer Driver:

    • Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed. Sometimes outdated drivers can limit printing options. Visit the HP Support page to check for the latest drivers compatible with your macOS version.
  3. Check Print Settings:

    • When sending a print job, ensure that the print settings in the print dialog box are set to color. In the print dialog, select ‘Color’ under the 'Color Options' or similar section.
  4. Check Default Print Settings:

    • Sometimes, the default settings for printing might be set to 'Grayscale'. To change this, go to 'Printer Features' or 'Quality' in the print dialog box and set the output to 'Color'.
  5. Reset the Printing System:

    • If the steps above do not work, try resetting the printing system. Go to 'System Preferences' > 'Printers & Scanners', right-click on the printer list, and choose 'Reset printing system'. This will remove and re-add your printers.
  6. Check for Software Updates:

    • Ensure your macOS is up-to-date, as sometimes updates include necessary printer software updates.
  7. Reinstall the Printer:

    • Remove the printer from 'Printers & Scanners' and then add it again, ensuring the correct drivers and options are used during reinstallation.
