HP4516 after the last time I put new cartridges in the test page came out fine.   But when I try to print Word docs or any docs I can't get it to print in.color though it always did.   Also the duplex is set to automatic but it makes me manually do it.

There is no color/grayscale option.anywhere though I am fairly sure there used to be.

Hi @MsC24,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing color printing and duplex issues with your HP ENVY 4516 All-in-One Printer:

Here are some steps you can take to address this issue

Color Printing:

  1. Check Printing Preferences:
    • Open your document in the program you want to print from.
    • Go to the "File" menu and select "Print" or "Print Settings".
    • Look for an option called "Color" or "Color Mode". Make sure it's set to "Color" and not "Grayscale" or "Black and White".
  2. Reinstall Printer Driver:
    • Go to "Settings" > "Devices and Printers" (or "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers" for older Windows versions).
    • Right-click your HP ENVY 4516 printer and select "Remove Device" or "Uninstall".
    • Download the latest driver for your printer from HP's website: Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 4516 All-in-One Printer
  • Install the downloaded driver and follow the on-screen instructions.
  1. Clean Printheads:
    • Cleaning the printheads can sometimes resolve color printing issues. You can usually access the cleaning function through the HP Smart app or your printer's control panel settings.
    • Consult your printer's user manual for specific instructions on cleaning the printheads.

Duplex Printing:

  1. Check Duplex Settings:
    • Open your document in the program you want to print from.
    • Go to the "File" menu and select "Print" or "Print Settings".
    • Look for an option called "Duplex" or "Double-sided Printing".
    • Make sure it's set to "Automatic" or "On" (whichever your program uses).
  2. Check Paper Compatibility:
    • Ensure you're using paper that supports duplex printing. Heavier paper types might not feed correctly for automatic duplexing.
  3. Manually Duplex:
    • If automatic duplexing isn't working, you can still print double-sided manually.
    • Print the first side of your document, then reload the paper according to the instructions in your printer's user manual.
    • The printer should prompt you to print the second side.

Missing Color/Grayscale Option:

  • The color/grayscale option might be located differently depending on your operating system and the program you're using to print.
  • Try exploring the print settings within the program itself.
  • If you still can't find it, consult your program's user guide or search online for specific instructions on accessing color/grayscale printing options.

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure your HP ENVY 4516 printer has enough ink, especially the color cartridge.
  • Check for any error messages on the printer's display or within the HP Smart app that might provide further clues about the issue.
