Anyone had "Attention Required" pop up when trying to print and what did you do to resolve the issue?

I haven't had my HP printer a year yet and I'm starting to feel like I made a really bad choice buying one.  What I thought would be a great printer to use for work has become so problematic and time waster with errors coming up with no reason for it to.

Any assist would be great.  Thanks

Welcome to the HP Community @Beaker2,

I will certainly do my best to help you with the printing error "attention required". Please let me know some more helpful information to help me research the problem for you.

  1. How is the printer connected (USB/ wireless/ wired/ Bluetooth)?
  2. What is the Operating System of the computer?
  3. Have you tested hardware functionality (made copies) and do they work successfully?
  4. Have you tried printing from different programs?
  5. Do all programs show the exact same error?
  6. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software (important)?
  7. If you're running Windows, run the Print and Scan Doctor and include the results.
  8. Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet (avoiding power bars and surge protectors)?
  9. Have you completed all Windows/Mac OS Updates?
  10. Have you tried using a different USB/Ethernet cable?

Thank you 🙂

  6. I've uninstalled and reinstalled.
  7. It give me a scan error when I print and scan.
  8. Surge protector.
  9. I have completed all updates.
  10. No, because it's wireless.

Hi Beaker,

I am still looking for some more clarification. We can start with a few basic steps and let me know what happens. It's still unclear if the problem is a hardware issue or a software issue.

Power reset the printer:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the unit.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 15 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the unit.
  • If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
  • Make a black and white copy from the front of the printer.  (Copies do not involve the computer in any way so this will test the printers hardware)
  • Make a color copy.
  • Send me the results on the copy. (If you see error messages, or if the copy printed out fine).

If the copies turned out fine and worked, click this link, check which Windows OS you are running and let me know. (Windows 7 for example)

Run the Print and Scan Doctor again from your computer, and choose "Fix Printing". When the tool is done its work, please tell me the results at the end.

Thank you 😄

I did a print, but it wouldn't scan. The comment said scan alignment error and I could print again or scan again.  It wouldn't scan after I tried it a few more times.   I did manage to print some the docs I had.  It's Windows 10.

My goal was to print the docs and I did.  I just can't understand why it's a scan alignment error, but it did't get in the way of me printing the doc I needed.

Hey Beaker,

The printer may not be getting full power, is what I am thinking. I would say remove the power from the surge protector and plug the printer in directly to a wall outlet, try scanning again. Hopefully this cures the problem!:)
