just great! I was concerned as the firmware update ended with a message telling me that a more recent firmware was already installed. But my printer now is operational again. Thanks a lot Repairatrooper

After applying the fix and before you reconnect any network connections, I recommend that you change update behaviour to either do not, or notify of change before applying. This gives you the option to reject any updates until you know they are not going to cause issues

The easiest method to disable updates is to press the gear icon in the upper left of the screen, scroll down to printer maintenance then printer updates and then printer update behaviour.

I have the .ful2 file on a USB stick inserted int othe printer, but the printer still hangs with an unresponsive screen.  Waited ~10 mins but no prompt to update the firmware. Any thoughts?

Just to clarify, you MUST DISCONNECT ANY NETWORK CABLE AND YOU MUST SHUT OFF THE WIRELESS THAT THE PRINTER IS CONNECTING TO. If the printer is able to connect to any network it will freeze up. If you have no control over the wireless then you will need to use the hard reset method that is documented in a thread on this forum.

Follow all these steps:

1. Download the latest firmware from the official HP page

2. Rename the .exe file to .zip

3. Unzip that file (using 7zip)

4. Find the .ful2 file in the unzipped folder

5. Copy the .ful2 file onto a newly formatted USB stick
6. Make sure the printer is off (may need to unplug it)

7. Insert the USB stick into the front USB slot of the printer

8. Turn the printer on while holding the Power button down (takes about 5 seconds)

9. Let go of power button when home and back arrow icon on the touchscreen are illuminated

10. Press Home Back Home Home - this lets you enter the blue screen menu

11. Try to press "Reflash". If it works, great! You're on your way

(12. If it doesn't work, repeat steps 8 -10.

13. Now that you're back at the hidden blue-screen menu press "Menu" then Reflash from USB (I think that's what it said))

14. Hopefully this works and now your printer is unbricked and the firmware is fully updated.
15. If nothing works it could be because your printer is connected to the internet. Unplug ethernet and your router, wait a bit and try again.

That’s really really helpful thank you - my first problem is that I can’t find the firmware from the HP site - would it be possible to send me a link? Sorry to be so hopeless - I’m so frustrated with my printer being so contrary!
