HP Envy 5032
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

All of a sudden my HP 5032 Envy Printer/Scanner has lost its scanning function? I can print OK and my MacBook can see the device but unable to scan and when I try to download the Drivers it doesn't see the device - is this a bug fix? I have just moved to macOS Big Sur and I am assuming that somehow this is not compatible with the HP software?

Any help or advice would be appreciated...

thanks Dave

Hi @Dave_911,

I'd like to help!

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Uninstall HP Easy Start

  • Click on the Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
  • Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
  • When prompted for Password, type in your system password
  • You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.

Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.

You can also install the HP Smart App from the APP Store and print and scan using the app.

You may also add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Add the Air Print printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using Air Print by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.
    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for Air Print. Click the printer name, click the minus sign "-" to delete the printer, click the plus sign "+"click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.
    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.
  3. Confirm Air Print or Secure Air Print displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi - my print function is still working perfectly. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software but the Scan function doesn't appear as an option - the only thing I can think that has changed is my recent update to Mac Big Sur software upgrade?

HP Recommended

I have tried re-installing the software yet again - this is the message I get when trying to do a scan - the 5032 sets off as though it is trying to perform the scan and this runs for approx 60 seconds then this message appears -

Scanner Issue

A problem with the scanner has been detected. Restart the printer, and then try again. If the problem persists, visit the HP Support website.

Hence the reason I am now here posing the question - what do I do next?

Further information to my problem -

I can actually get it to do a Preview scan off the document on the glass top - but when I then ask it to scan the item it comes up with the same error message -

Scanner Issue

A problem with the scanner has been detected. Restart the printer, and then try again. If the problem persists, visit the HP Support website.

Could you try making a copy using the printer?

Also, check if the scanner bar lights and moves

Let me know!

Hi - sorry for the delay in responding, yes the scanner will make a copy and yes the scanner bar does move across.

It is the link from my MacBook Pro which has stopped working for the scanner function only it does print from my MacBook.

I have re-installed the drivers, checked the wifi and everything with no luck

thanks

Dave

Could you try and scan using image capture?

Are you using HP Smart or HP Scan?

Let me know!
