Hi @HO-Guy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP 6400 series printer displays a blinking orange light and the status indicates "busy," it suggests there may be an issue that needs to be addressed to resume printing. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check for Error Messages

  1. Control Panel Display:
    • Check the printer's control panel for any error messages or codes that might provide more information about the issue.

Step 2: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Unplug the Printer:
    • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait:
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect and Turn On:
    • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Turn the printer back on and check if the issue is resolved.

Step 3: Check for Paper Jams

  1. Open All Access Panels:
    • Open all accessible panels and doors on the printer to check for any paper jams.
  2. Remove Any Jammed Paper:
    • Carefully remove any jammed paper you find. Ensure no pieces are left behind.

Step 4: Check Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door:
    • Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed.
  2. Check Ink Levels:
    • Ensure the ink cartridges have sufficient ink. Replace any low or empty cartridges.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @HO-Guy,

Kindly find the next set of steps below.

Step 5: Clear Print Queue

  1. Open Print Queue:
    • On your laptop, go to Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners in the Control Panel or Settings.
    • Select your HP 6400 printer and open the print queue.
  2. Cancel All Documents:
    • Cancel all pending print jobs to clear the print queue.

Step 6: Check Network Connection

  1. Ensure Printer is Connected to Network:
    • If your printer is connected wirelessly, ensure it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
    • Check the printer's network settings to confirm the connection.
  2. Restart Router:
    • Restart your router to refresh the network connection.

Step 7: Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. Download Latest Drivers:
    • Go to the HP Support website.
    • Enter your printer model (HP 6400 series) and download the latest drivers for your operating system.
  2. Install the Drivers:
    • Install the updated drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 8: Reset the Printer

  1. Factory Reset:
    • Refer to your printer's user guide for instructions on performing a factory reset.
    • This step will reset all settings to their defaults and may resolve the issue.

If the problem persists after trying the above steps, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
