Hi @Zayde2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer Scanner is not working with your Mac, there are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Make sure the printer is properly connected to your Mac. Check the USB cable or network connection between the printer and your computer. Ensure that the printer is turned on and in a ready state.
  • Update the printer drivers: Visit the official HP website and navigate to the support section. Look for the drivers and downloads section specific to your printer model. Download and install the latest drivers for your Mac operating system.
  • Restart your Mac and the printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches or conflicts. Turn off both your Mac and the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
  • Reset the printing system: Go to "System Preferences" on your Mac and select "Printers & Scanners." Right-click (or Ctrl-click) anywhere in the printers list and choose "Reset printing system." This will remove all printers from your Mac. Afterward, add your printer again by clicking the "+" button and following the on-screen instructions.
  • Check for software conflicts: Sometimes, other applications or software can interfere with the printer's functionality. Try disabling any antivirus or firewall software temporarily and see if that resolves the issue.
  • Ensure the printer is set as the default: Open "System Preferences" on your Mac and go to "Printers & Scanners." Select your printer from the list on the left side, and then click the "Set default printer" button.
  • Test with a different application: If you're experiencing issues with a specific application, try printing from a different program to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is software-related or specific to one application.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
