Hi all,
I upgraded to windows 10 and since then I've been having issues with the photosmart 7520. I used to use the Printer Assistant software like Wolfgang here did, in order to scan documents and check the status of the printer cartridges etc. Now, this software will no longer install. I have tried HP Print and Scan doctor, all the drivers are there, the printing and scanning is finally working again, BUT this software won't install. If I try to install from the HP page, it will install for example the HP assistant or the Photo editing software BUT NOT the assistant / scanning software. I am going crazy with this. We've done fresh installs a few times. it seems like something is corrupted and I can't find out what it is. I'm also running CCleaner but I've run that for many years (ok, not on this computer) but that has never deleted a file I needed. is there anything else I can do to get this software back? is there a standalone software (without the drivers) I can download?
there is a solved thread from wolfgang that has a similar issue, and the HP print and scan doctor solved his problem. but mine isn't solved with that or with new installs.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues installing the full feature software on the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall and check if it helps.
Here is how it is done.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the printer more than once. I'm a little afraid to do it again because once, it installed incorrectly (as text only) and then I had trouble uninstalling that. my bf who works in IT spent 1.5 hours just trying to uninstall it.
there must be a glitch in the software installer. the subfolders that HP created were all empty. there was also a missing .dll file. I did a search for it and found a backup on the hard drive. so I have now copy-pasted everything from backup on C:\. I seem to have everything back where it should be, and the software even starts, but only shows me the printer, not the scanner, and not the fax (although, who needs fax.). there could be some files I'm still missing.
I have had to install "HP Scan and Capture" that I found on this forum as an alternative, so now I do have a working printer and scanner, I'm afraid if I root-uninstall it again, everything will get messed up once more, tbh.
