I have a Mac running Sequioa 15.5 with an HP 7520 printer. The printer does not seem to recognise the photo tray but seems to print from all other sources. I've supposedly downloaded the latest drivers but do not seem to have any way of checking this. Can anyone help please. Thank you Chris

Hi @ChrisCarsberg,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that the photo tray is selected as the paper source in the print settings.
- When printing, go to 'Print' in your application, then click on 'Show Details' and select the correct paper tray.
Update Printer Driver:
- Open 'System Preferences' on your Mac, then go to 'Printers & Scanners'.
- Select your HP 7520 printer from the list and click 'Options & Supplies'. Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed. Sometimes Apple updates the drivers, so ensure your macOS is up-to-date.
- Download and install the latest drivers from HP's official website: HP Photosmart 7520 Drivers & Software.
Reset Printing System:
- In 'Printers & Scanners', right-click (or control-click) in the printer list sidebar and select 'Reset printing system'. This will remove all printers and scanners, and you'll need to add them again. This can often resolve connection or recognition issues.
Add Printer Manually:
- After resetting, click the '+' button to add your HP 7520 printer again.
- Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your Mac, and select it from the list of available printers.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Verify if there's a firmware update available for your HP 7520 printer. Firmware updates can resolve unexpected issues. You can check this from the printer's front panel or through the HP Smart App.
- Go to HP's official firmware update page: HP Printer Firmware Update.
Use the HP Smart App:
- Download and use the HP Smart App which may provide more specific settings and information about the printer: HP Smart for macOS.
I hope this helps.

Many thanks Kuroi, the printer is now working but when I print in colour the image has a yellow, white and black hue and is not full colour. I have changed all the cartidges and they atre showing as full in settings so that doesn't appear to be the problem. I think it may be a driver issue but I've already downloaded these so I assume they are correct! Do you have any other ideas? Any help you can give me would be most welcome and I do realise that the printer is quite old, however it suits my modest purposes as I do not print that many photographs.
Regards
Chris

@ChrisCarsberg, I see you were interacting with @Kuroi_Kenshi however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out!
Thanks for the update — glad to hear the photo tray is working now!
As for the color issue: a yellow, white, and black hue usually points to either a printhead problem or a software-related glitch, even if the cartridges are full.
Here are a few quick things you can try:
Printhead Cleaning:
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead. Run it once or twice to see if the colors improve.
Use HP Utility (on Mac):
Open HP Utility from your Applications folder. Select your printer, then go to Clean Printheads and follow the prompts.'
Color Matching in Print Settings:
When printing, click Show Details → Color Matching, and try switching between Vendor Matching and ColorSync to see if either helps.
Reinstall Drivers:
Sometimes reinstalling can fix deeper conflicts. Go to Printers & Scanners, remove the printer, and add it again using HP’s official driver — not AirPrint, if possible.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey and thank you for the update. I've tried everything you mentioned and in the Mac Printer and Scanner settings it comes up with the message" one or more components of the HP printing software are corrupted or missing, hence, I presume, the yellow, black and white hue without the magenta and cyan it would seem. I've downloaded the driver from the official HP website having logged into this with my serial number and product number. In the dialogue box the driver version is 4.9.0 and I'm using Mac Sequioa 15.5. Any other ideas of how to solve this other than buy another printer?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards
Chris

Hi Zoey 7886, I sent a reply to your message but have not received any feedback regarding this from you. I've lost count of the number of times I've installed and re-installed the latest software for this and I can only assume that the problem is some kind of conflict between Sequoia 15.5 and the latest HP driver and it would be good to know whether this is being investigated by HP as it seems other users have had problems with this. Your quick response would be very much appreciated or a direct contact with HP rather than a chat box. Thank you. Chris
