I am amending my original post with a question to the issue I've described below. Has anyone had this issue and concluded it was caused by malicious activities by intruders?
My HP7740 configuration settings are locked out. The error message is: "This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer." Since I have owned this printer since new, I don't understand. I have read and followed the accepted solutions on this forum however, for some reason I cannot get the blue screen that offers the factory reset option.
This is the second HP printer that I have encountered this type of error. I trashed the first printer because I could not resolve the issue. I am moments away from trashing the second and LAST HP PRINTER I WILL OWN and going with another manufacturer. I would appreciate some professional feedback and a solution to this issue.

I am amazed that over 90 views to this thread/issue and no comments or solutions...
After all of the PC's and printers I have purchased, over the years, for myself and customers from HP and I can't get any help.
I'm out for good and won't look back. Adios HP.
