A few weeks ago my 8020e stopped scanning to a PDF (using browser interface). The recommended solution was to reinstall the driver. Apparently the basic driver won't scan to PDF and you need to have a more robust driver. Downloaded the driver from HP and ran the install. It forced me through a complete re-instalation of the printer, but it never finished! I decided to try again yesterday. The installation program started about 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, ran all night, and was still running at 9:00 a.m this morning (showing the arrow spinning in a circle and the message Please Wait. I terminated the program and tried the scan and it still only scans to an image and not a PDF. (Yes, I know how to put the image in a document and create a PDF, but...)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi @DGC512

You may need to install with HP Easy Start driver:

The one I was using was the one recommended by HP - HPEasyStart_17_5_11.exe, but I'll give your suggestion a try. One additional piece of information I hadn't mentioned was that the new driver installation also messed up the color on the printer - the colors are just not right, and I mostly use black and white so as not to have to deal with that issue! I must admit that it is extremely frustrating!

(I do appreciate your time with this problem! I was a Novell Netware SysOp on Netwire for several years.)

OK, I ran your recommended driver installation file - HPEasyStart-13.6.5-OJP8020_49_11_4670_1_Webpack.exe

I started it at 12:30 p.m. I can see in Task Manager that it is running. At this point, it's using about 156.6 MB of memory (it started at around 155 MB). CPU usage seems to vary from 0% to about 18%. After finding the printer and starting the driver installation, the program has displayed a window that has a blue and white header with the hp logo and the title HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 Series with a large white box that has NOTHING in it. This is the way ALL of the driver installations have looked. There is no indication from the installation that it is doing anything. I would have expected SOMETHING! A message that something is happening, a spinning arrow, something! BUT, nothing! The installation has been running now for almost half an hour. I would have expected it to complete in no more than a few minutes. So, something is wrong with it or with my system or with me!

I appreciate your feedback!

Hi @DGC512

Thank you for following up 😇

Ok, seems that something is not working on Windows system for installing drivers 🤔

1. First remove printer driver following steps from the next video:

2. Restart your computer.

3. Then reinstall using Easy Start driver

For alternative you can use HP Universal Scanner software:

Thanks, again! Before you replied, I decided to try one more time and to let it run. I had an issue to attend to , so I was away for a number of hours, and I had just returned to look at the driver installation. On the screen was a message telling me that my Internet connection had been lost. It looked good to me, so I clicked the Retry button and it told me there still was no Internet. I loaded my email program (Thunderbird) and my browser (Firefox) and they both connected fine. Again, I clicked Retry and the driver installation program said there was no Internet connection. SO, I terminated the installation.

I still have the situation that it will only scan to an image AND the colors it prints are off.

So, I will follow the suggestions you made below and see if I can get things corrected!

Thanks, again, for hanging with me on this issue. It may be a day or two before I can retry the installation!
