Fixing PDF Printing Issues on Windows 11 (HP Printers)

Since your printer works with other documents, the issue is likely with how PDFs are handled on your computer. Follow these steps in order:

1. Reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

  1. On the taskbar, click the Search icon.
  2. Type apps and features and select it.
  3. In the list of programs, find Adobe Reader.
  4. Click the menu icon next to Adobe Reader, then select Uninstall.
  5. Confirm by clicking Uninstall, then Yes in the popup.
  6. After uninstall completes, close all programs and restart the computer.
  7. Open a browser and go to get.adobe.com/reader.
  8. Download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
  9. Open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and try printing.

If PDFs still do not print, continue.

2. Make Adobe Reader the Default PDF App

  1. Click the Search icon on the taskbar.
  2. Type default apps and select it.
  3. In the Default apps search bar, type .pdf.
  4. In the results, click the current default app for .pdf files.
  5. Select Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from the list, then click OK.
  6. Close the settings windows and try printing the PDF again.

If it still fails, continue.

3. Test with a Different PDF

  1. Close the original PDF.
  2. Open a different PDF file in Adobe Reader DC.
  3. Try to print it.
    • If the other PDF prints, the problem is with the original file (size/corruption). Try recreating or saving it again from the source application.

If no PDFs print, continue.

4. Print the PDF as an Image

  1. Open the original PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
  2. Click File > Print.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Check Print as Image, then click OK.
  5. Click Print.

If the PDF prints as an image, you can use this method as a workaround for problematic PDFs.
