Looks like my HPSmart scan/print/etc app has disappeared from my Macbook (Sequoia 15.6) today, replaced by an "hp" icon that doesn't seem helpful.  How do we scan now? Is there a new thing to be downloaded?  Thank you for any help!

Welcome to the HP Community --

 

HP App is new -- it's meant to be a "One stop shop" for several topics.

One stop can mean there are more ways to get lost.

No worries -- 

The Print and Scan Menu Tiles are still in the app.

 

Open HP App

If needful, click to Add your printer 

Once that is done, when you open the HP App. click on your printer icon (on the right side of the menu)

The menu opens that includes the Tiles for the application, including Scan

 

The following are new -- forgive any odd errors.

The examples were taken from HP App running in iOS / iPadOS

Scroll down a bit to see the Print and Scan menu tiles.

Reminders -- Initial Connection

  • Your Mobile device (tablet, phone) must be on the same network as the printer.
  • On that mobile device, Location Services and Bluetooth should both be switched ON

 

-- Be Aware –

Any HP application you install should be sourced from “HP”.

 

What?  Fakes have been discovered on at least one Mobile App Store –

Check who is providing the application >> “HP Inc.”

If you can’t tell, ask or use the Homepage method (if using Windows) to download and install the HP Smart application.

 Expand the area that describes the application – read the first sentences and click “More”

 Reminders

  • If asked enter the printer’s PIN number – The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

 And

  • “Advanced” / EWS can also be opened using your Browser:   Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
