My printer works great and printing files or pictures via HPSmart works great as well. It's just when I want to print my labels that I have problems. If I just start the printer and print the open pdf directly it works fine. But, if I open up HPSmart and select the pdf and then print, it shrinks the image on top/bottom and left/right, ruining a whole sheet of labels.
Is there something I need to do in HPSmart to make this work as well as my experience with paper pdf and image files?

Hi @UserDirk,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you're experiencing with the HP Smart app shrinking your labels when printing PDFs is likely due to the app's default settings or how it's handling the PDF's scaling. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:
1. Check the Scaling Settings in HP Smart:
- When you select the PDF to print in HP Smart, look for a "Print Settings" or "Advanced Settings" option.
- Ensure that the scaling option is set to "Actual Size" or "100%" rather than "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Fit."
- This should prevent the app from automatically resizing your labels.
2. Use a Different PDF Viewer for Printing Labels:
- If HP Smart continues to shrink the labels, consider printing the PDF labels using a different PDF viewer (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader) rather than the HP Smart app.
- Open the PDF in the alternative viewer, check the scaling settings (as mentioned above), and print from there.
3. Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that both the HP Smart app and your printer’s firmware are up-to-date. Sometimes, updates fix issues related to printing and scaling.
4. Try a Different Paper Size Setting:
- Sometimes, the app may automatically adjust the scaling based on the selected paper size.
- Ensure that the paper size in the HP Smart app matches the size of your label sheets.
5. Print Directly from the Printer’s Built-in Software:
- If your printer has an LCD screen with options to print directly from a USB drive or other built-in software, try printing the labels this way to avoid the scaling issue.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Gaya1239,
I tried your suggestions today and unfortunately they didn't solve the problem with HPSmart.
I installed a new version of HPSmart and found a new firmware update which I installed. It suggested that I should reboot my printer, which I did.
I first tried a plain paper version print of my label template and found a new "labels" setting on paper type, which I clicked on. The printout lined up nicely with where it should on a blank label sheet.
I then put a sheet of labels in my paper tray and selected "labels" as the paper type, but once again, the print out was shrunk and another sheet of labels was mostly ruined. These are kind of expensive, just so you know.
In any case, when I ignore HPSmart, and just open up the pdf in Firefox and print from there, it comes out perfect.
