HP ENVY Photo 7855
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printing pages or images from the Internet - all print as HUGE images, so that I can get perhaps a quarter of an Internet page on a letter-sized sheet of paper. It doesn't matter whether I set the size to "fit to sheet", or set the print for 75% or 100% of the size. I see that many, many people have reported this issue, but haven't found any suggestion from the community that works for me. The OS on my Dell Inspiron 3656 is Windows 10 Home (64-bit), fully updated. Thanks for any help! - Bill

Can you share a link to a thread in the Community from a customer who has reported the "same issue"?

Pick something that illustrates the step(s) for a solution and what you have already tried.

Thanks.

Why?

Well, we don't know what you've tried to resolve the issue.

Starting from scratch when you've tried "stuff" wastes your time (and ours).

What?

Normally, all aspects of printing from the Internet involves printing from the browser used to view the page and then submit the job to the printer.

Most browsers provide similar controls for scale (size).

That said, Chrome is a bit different from Firefox from Microsoft Edge from "other browser".

  • Which browser are you using?
  • What is the browser's version?
  • How long have you been having the issue?

What else?

In general, the printer is unaware of what it prints.

It does however make choices about the print job when the printer software is installed and the browser print job is set to use the dialog print settings in that printer software.

What?  It is important whether you have installed the Full Feature Software (full driver) for the printer.

?

What else?

Windows Updates regularly play havoc with installed software, including (sometimes) the printer software.

In spite of this, Windows Updates should be installed and current (not pending or behind).

Not directly related, but can really cause temporary problems, make sure your browser is not trying to update while you are actively using it for printing tasks.  Check the Browser "About" page > If needed, let the browser update and restart the browser.

Can you share a link to a thread in the Community from a customer who has reported the "same issue"?  Please search on "huge font", and you will get 6-7 links, many from March 2021, some with replies.

Pick something that illustrates the step(s) for a solution and what you have already tried.

My attempts to fix:

1. Turn off and unplug ENVY Photo 7855 printer and hold down power button while unplugged for 30 seconds to clear cache.

2. In Windows 10  (Home edition - 64-bit) Control Panel>Devices & Printers>Properties>Preferences tried to find a control for page width or size, without success. (When I print from the Web in my Firefox browser, images that say they are .pdfs often open a set of preferences that include page width [set to page-width] and size [I set to 75%] - which steps make no difference in the huge size of the printed page.)

3. Tried going through HP Smart, which took me to a link to a Microsoft troubleshooter, but all I got was an error code stating that the page had been taken down or moved.

Thanks.

What?

Normally, all aspects of printing from the Internet involves printing from the browser used to view the page and then submit the job to the printer.

Most browsers provide similar controls for scale (size). Looked in Firefox Browser (build 88.0.1 (64-bit)) without success for any printing scale controls - do you know where I would find them?

That said, Chrome is a bit different from Firefox from Microsoft Edge from "other browser".

  • Which browser are you using? Firefox Browser (build 88.0.1 (64-bit)
  • What is the browser's version?
  • How long have you been having the issue? Several months, but not when printing documents in their apps (Adobe Acrobat, Word or Excel, Quicken). It happens when I try to print from the Internet without downloading the document and separately opening it in its home app. I believe the problem started at the time we had to replace our original ENVY Photo 7855 printer when the document feeder died just after the warranty expired. (New one is still in warranty period.)

In general, the printer is unaware of what it prints.

? Yes, I have the full-featured software for my HP printer installed.

What else?

Windows Updates regularly play havoc with installed software, including (sometimes) the printer software.

In spite of this, Windows Updates should be installed and current (not pending or behind). Yes - my Windows automatically updates, as does my Firefox browser.

Not directly related, but can really cause temporary problems, make sure your browser is not trying to update while you are actively using it for printing tasks.  Check the Browser "About" page > If needed, let the browser update and restart the browser. Don't think this concern applies.

Thanks for your help!
