Hi @sailortaw1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how it feels when your OfficeJet Pro 9730e keeps flipping pages back and forth, printing double‑sided when all you want is a simple, clean single‑page print. It can feel like the printer has a mind of its own, turning sheets over like a little paper dancer.

Don’t worry. Let’s gently guide your printer back to single‑sided printing on your Mac.

Turn Off Double‑Sided Printing on Mac (HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e)

Option 1: Turn Off Two‑Sided for the Current Print Job

This is the quickest way, like softly nudging the printer in the right direction.

  1. Open your document
  2. Click File → Print
  3. In the center of the Print window, look for the dropdown that may say:
    • Copies & Pages
    • or Layout
    • or the name of the app you’re printing from
  4. Click Layout
  5. Find Two‑Sided
  6. Choose Off
  7. Click Print

You should hear the comforting sound of the printer feeding just one sheet at a time.

Option 2: Make Single‑Sided the Permanent Default

This stops your printer from choosing duplex unless you tell it to.

  1. On your Mac, open:
Apple Menu → System Settings → Printers & Scanners
  2. Select HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e
  3. Click Options & Supplies
  4. Open the Options tab
  5. Look for Duplex Unit or Two‑Sided Printing
  6. Uncheck or Disable it
  7. Click OK

This removes duplex from the printer’s default behavior.

Option 3: Create a One‑Sided Preset (HP Recommended)

Think of this as teaching your Mac a “favorite routine.”

  1. Open a document → File → Print
  2. Set Two‑Sided = Off
  3. At the top, next to Presets, choose
    Save Current Settings as Preset…
  4. Name it: HP 9730e – Single Sided
  5. Choose only this printer
  6. Save

From now on, choosing this preset makes printing feel effortless.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
