I recently had issues with the scanner not working on this printer.  I ran the Scan doctor to fix the scanner and it said I needed to update scanner driver.  Used HP Smart to no avail.  Anyone with same issue recently and how to fix?

Hi @RF-4C009

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for already running the scan tool and trying the HP App—it shows great initiative. I'm truly sorry the scanner still isn't working.

Let's walk through a fresh, complete path to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 scanner driver updated and scanning smoothly again.

1. Uninstall Existing HP Software

To ensure a clean installation, remove any existing HP printer software:

  • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
  • In the list, locate any entries for HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 or HP App, right-click and choose Uninstall.
  • Restart your PC after uninstalling.

2. Disconnect the Printer

  • If connected via USB, unplug the cable.
  • If connected via Wi-Fi, disconnect the printer from the network temporarily using the printer’s control panel.

3. Download and Install Full Feature Software

  • Visit the official HP support page for HP OfficeJet Pro 8715.
  • Select Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) as your OS.
  • Under Software and Drivers, download the Full Feature Software and Driver package.
  • Run the installer and follow the on-screen steps. When prompted, reconnect the printer (USB or Wi-Fi).

Note: If you're using a VPN, disconnect it before downloading.

4. Re-add Printer in HP App

  • Open the HP App (formerly HP Smart).
  • Click Add Printer and follow the prompts to reconnect your OfficeJet Pro 8715.
  • Once added, try scanning from the Scan tab.

5. Test Windows Scan Function

  • Press Windows + S, type Windows Fax and Scan, and open it.
  • Click New Scan and select your printer.
  • If scanning works here, the driver is functioning correctly.

If the Scanner Still Doesn’t Work

Try these additional steps:

  • Run HP Diagnose & Fix from the HP App (under Printer Settings > Tools).
  • Ensure Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running:
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Scroll to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), right-click > Start (or Restart if already running).

You're doing all the right things, and I appreciate your patience. Once the full driver is installed and the printer is reconnected through the HP App, scanning should resume normally.

If it doesn’t, let’s continue refining the steps together.
