@DeeTamaras, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Printer M127/28 is showing a "USB not recognized" error when connected to a computer, it may be due to a variety of issues related to the printer, the USB cable, or the USB ports on the computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check the USB Cable:

  • Use a different USB cable to rule out any possible damage or faults with the current cable.

Try Different USB Ports:

  • Connect the printer to a different USB port on your computer. Sometimes individual ports can malfunction.

Power Cycle:

  • Turn off both the printer and the computer. Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Restart the computer as well.

Install/Update Drivers:

Check Device Manager:

  • On your computer, open Device Manager and check if the printer appears under 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' or 'Printers.' If marked with an exclamation point or not listed, it may indicate a driver issue.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Use Windows troubleshooting for detecting and fixing USB device issues. Go to the Control Panel, select 'Troubleshooting,' and follow the prompts for hardware and devices.

Update Chipset Drivers:

  • Ensure the chipset drivers for the motherboard are up to date, as they can affect USB port functionality.

Test on Other Systems:

  • As you have, test the printer on different computers to rule out problems with the PC you initially used.

Firmware Updates:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for the printer. Updating firmware can resolve compatibility issues with connected devices.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
