HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I need help ASAP verifying whether the HP support agent that remoted into my desktop on 10/3/23 around 5:17pm EST was a legitimate HP Support Agent or was a scammer.[Personal Information Removed]

I got suspicious when he started looking at gift cards while remoted in on my laptop using secure.logmeinrescue.com, and he did not seem to have done anything to fix my printer issue. I might have accidentally clicked on a non-HP website, leading me to a fake support agent.

Thank you for your help. I need to determine how serious a security breach this potentially is. It is a little frustrating that there does not seem to be a tech support phone number directly from HP, so it is hard to tell if the person helping you is official HP or not.

Very likely not HP. The number does not match what I would expect. And the agent behavior is not consistent with HP policy. The risk is a lingering logmein session or back door being installed. A virus scan and malware test at minimum should be performed.
