Why is it so difficult to buy a product which puts the customer first.  I want to choose which ink cartridges I put in my printer but I can't because HP has me trapped.  Can someone please help me disable HP+ even though I don't have a subscription and anything else I need to do to use MY printer.

One other thing, do I really need to be connected to the internet to use my printer?

Thanks in anticipation.

Douglas

HP+ can't be disabled. There is a difference in price between HP+ printers, which are cheaper to buy than "normal" printers

HP Officejet Pro 9720e  is an HP+ printer. Cheaper to buy, but you are stuck with HP+

I am sorry I don't accept that.  This is a breach of consumer rights, it's anti-competitive and it goes against everything HP said earlier this year about giving consumers choice when it settled a lawsuit in the USA.   This is the most disappointed I have ever been in buying a HP product and all you can say is that is why it was cheap????

HP Recommended

It's not a breach of consumer rights because the customer has the right to choose between HP+ printer and a normal printer.

I can’t say that was very helpful and neither was the printer cheap. What was cheap was the lack of transparency on the part of HP.   I could have purchased an Epsom or a Canon  for a similar price without being locked into HP+ or similar setup. But thanks for trying. D

@douglasmcc

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

@Valsimot is correct --

The "e" printer models in this series include options and features not found on "non-e" models.

Primary amongst these features is an optional service contract called HP+

If this is your printer

HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e Wide Format All-in-One series

Then the following might be useful.

The information is provided FYI and is not meant to change your mind about how you feel about the product(s).

=======================================

What is the HP+ Service / Contract?

When the HP+ service contract is enabled, the printer is added to your HP Smart / HP Connected account.

AND

  • Menus related HP App / HP Smart might be changed to Orange.
  • Premium scan features are added to the printer after setup.
  • For new printers -- The original hardware product Warranty is extended for an additional year.
  • You agree to use only HP genuine cartridges (no refills or 3rd party remanufactured).
  • Once enabled, HP+ cannot be cancelled - Should you wish to dispute, Contact Support.

========================================

>>> Reminder <<<

HP+ and HP Instant Ink are separate contracts.

  • You can have one and not the other.
  • You can have both HP+ and Instant Ink.
  • You can choose to have neither.
  • HP+ is a permanent change to your printer's operation.
  • Instant Ink can be cancelled.

========================================

Once enabled, HP+ service cannot be undone.

If you also signed up for Instant Ink and regret having done so,

the Instant Ink contract can be cancelled.

True -- If you enabled the HP+ service contract, you are still tied into using HP genuine ink cartridges.

Instant Ink is a print-by-page subscription.

At the least, you can cancel Instant Ink.

If you did not enable HP+ and you have only signed up for Instant Ink -

then

You can cancel Instant Ink.

AND

The printer is built to tolerate HP chipped cartridges though their use is not supported or guaranteed.

=================================================

If you have / had an Instant Ink subscription --

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

  • Installed ink cartridges activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.

and

  • After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

and

  • Subscription / Instant Ink cartridges remain the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

======================================================

Once released from Instant Ink AND if you did not enable the HP+ service contract,

The printer will still require that you use "HP chipped" ink cartridges.

If you wish to dispute the setup, you may certainly do so.
