I recently purchased new computer Windows 11
Since then have had issues with my printer Inkjet 4650 not printing in color
I have taken out the printer and reinstalled it and it printed a few pages in color but now has switched out to B&W again/
Any suggestions or solutions

@Nancy-1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Fixing Color Printing Issues on HP InkJet 4650!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP InkJet 4650 is not printing in color after upgrading to Windows 11, here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings on your computer are set to print in color.
  • You can do this by going to the 'Printers & Scanners' settings in Windows, selecting your HP InkJet 4650, and checking the printing preferences.

Inspect Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  • Wait until the ink carriage stops moving.
  • Check if the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink.
  • Replace any cartridges that are low or empty.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed for Windows 11. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your HP InkJet 4650.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Turn the printer back on and try printing again.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 system is up-to-date. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for responding. I have done most of the things you have mentioned.
Ink cartridges are fine
Windows 11 is a new computer not upgraded
When  looking for the settings color and grayscale there is no place to do the color.
I had some issues with the driver not wanting to down load.  I may try that again.
I removed the printer then installed it again.  It works for a short time then goes right  back to doing the same thing again.
Windows is up to date. It automatically checks and updates.

Right now I am letting Windows handle things to see if it continues to print correctly.
Another thing that has been going on is when I set it for pictures 4x6 and put in the photo paper it says it is not the correct size, Really all of this is ridiculous
Thanks for reaching out . At least I was able to og through the list.

@Nancy-1, Thanks for your update — I can hear the frustration in your message, and I totally get how annoying this must be, especially when something as simple as printing a photo turns into a tech headache.

It does sound like the driver might be the main culprit here. When Windows installs a basic or fallback driver, color options and photo settings often disappear or misbehave. I recommend downloading the full feature software from HP’s website directly — not just the basic driver. It gives you access to all the printer’s color settings, paper size options, and more.

Here’s a quick tip:
When reinstalling, fully remove the printer first (Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Remove device), then go to HP’s official site and search for the 4650 Full Feature Software for Windows 11.

Also, try opening the printer preferences directly from the Control Panel (not the new Windows Settings), then go to Advanced or Paper/Quality tab — you should see the grayscale or color setting there.

You're doing all the right things. Hopefully this helps it stick this time. Let me know how it goes — we're here with you.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
