macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I'm using a 15" MBP  and a late 2013 27" iMac with both running macOS 10.13.5

The original software won't install with the OS and there are no updates after version 10.12

My router is an Orbi with one satellite. The printer sees and added the Orbi network and password wirelessly. The problem is the computers can't talk to the printer.

Is there any other HP wireless MF printer that is compatible with 10.13.5?

Thank you

Bob

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Good to know that your printer is connected and you are able to print from your Mac.

Update the printer firmware for a permanent fix for this issue.

Here is the link for HP document with the steps to update the printer firmware:- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are unable to add the printer to iMac. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

Did you try to add the printer with AirPrint?

If not, follow the below steps:

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  2. Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  3. Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  4. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

  5. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.
  6. Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu
  7. Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  8. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Thank you for your reply.

It appears the problem has more to do with switching from my Airport Extreme router to an Orbi router.

The printer recognized the new network. I let the printer walked me through the setup and was good to go on it's end.

However the computer no longer saw the printer. Orbi (Netgear) did have a workaround app that allowed the computer to see the printer if it was hardwired to the router. The problem is one day it worked, the next day it didn't.

I'm not able to reinstall printer software because I'm using MacOS 10.13.4 (High Sierra). The install disk won't run and there is no software on the HP site for this printer and 10.13.4.

I had another issue with the Orbi  that I didn't realize until a day after I installed it. I wasn't able to connect with the other computers on my network. I'm not the sharpest when it comes to the nuts and bolts of routers, but I've never had trouble connecting with the other computers or the printer with my other routers.

I ultimately unplugged the Orbi and connected back with the Airport Extreme. Printer is now working again and I can connect with the other computers on the network.

Thanks for your help............a question though, is there any chance the printer software will furnish an update to include High Sierra?

I've always been able to print from the Mac with the Airport router. It was only after switching routers the printer and computer weren't able to get along. After switching back to the Airport everything was back to normal.

Because of a few other issues between the new router and my network, unrelated to the printer problem, I've decided to stick with the Airport for now.

One thing your helped me immensly with was updating the firmware. I never knew I could update the firmware through the printer. Your link  made it simple and fast.

Thank you very much for your willingness to take the time to help with my problem. It's also good to know I don't have to run out and buy a new printer as I do like this one very much.

Thanks again.
