@MaddogMaine, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'd be happy to help you set up your HP Officejet H470 series printer with your work laptop. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started:

Step 1: Connect the Printer

The Officejet H470 supports both USB and Bluetooth connections. Choose the method that works best for your setup:

USB Connection

  1. Plug the USB cable from the printer into your laptop.
  2. Power on the printer.
  3. Windows should automatically detect and install the driver. If not, proceed to Step 2.

Bluetooth Connection (Optional)

  1. Ensure your printer has the optional Bluetooth adapter installed.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on your laptop.
  3. On the printer, enable Bluetooth (refer to the printer manual).
  4. Pair the printer from your laptop’s Bluetooth settings.

Step 2: Install the Printer Driver

HP no longer provides full software for older models like the H470, but you can still install it using Windows built-in drivers or HP's Basic Driver.

Use Windows Update

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click Add a printer or scanner.
  3. Wait for Windows to detect the printer. If it appears, click to install.

Step 3: Test the Printer

Once installed:

  1. Open a document and try printing.
  2. If the printer doesn’t respond, restart both the printer and laptop.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the printer isn’t detected via USB, try a different port or cable.
  • For Bluetooth issues, ensure the adapter is compatible and properly seated.
  • If you're on a corporate laptop, check with IT if driver installation is restricted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
