How Can I Reset or Restart my HP Printer if it is not taking command from Mobile?

Hi @hectorbar

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when the printer doesn’t respond to commands from your mobile. You’ve already taken the right step by checking from your phone, so let’s go through a clear process to reset or restart the printer and restore communication.

Restarting the Printer

  1. Power off the printer using the power button.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds to allow the printer’s internal memory to clear.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Power the printer back on and wait until it is fully initialized.

Resetting the Printer’s Network Connection

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Confirm the reset. This clears the current Wi‑Fi configuration.
  3. Reconnect the printer to your Wi‑Fi network using Wireless Setup Wizard on the control panel.
  4. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.

Reconnecting with the HP App

  1. On your Android device, install or update the HP App.
  2. Open the app and tap Add Printer.
  3. Follow the prompts to detect the printer on Wi‑Fi.
  4. If detection fails, connect the printer temporarily with a USB cable to complete setup, then switch back to wireless.

  • If the printer still does not respond, print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
  • Check the IP address listed and enter it into your mobile browser to confirm the printer is visible on the network.

By following these steps, you’ll give the printer a fresh start and ensure your mobile device can communicate properly. It’s great that you’re already attentive to the setup details — that makes the recovery process much smoother.
