How To Set HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e Paper Tray And Type Defaults for iOS AirPrint Convenience

HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e inkjet printer has two paper trays:
- 1 Top. Multiple paper types including plain, photo/gloss, envelope, etc.
- 2 Bottom. Plain paper.
with Tray 1 as factory default.

But some may wish to make Tray 2 the default, as is convenient to load and leave it with plain paper, while reserving Tray 1 for various/specialized use (photo paper, envelopes, etc.), and as that makes use from iPhone/iPad via iOS's AirPrint more convenient in this scenario.

Was not able to change the default to Tray 2 in the printer's display menu. Ideally, should be available in printer's Menu > Utilities > Trays or such.
HP, PLEASE FIX

Was able to change the default to Tray 2 via using web browser to access the printer's embedded web server IP address, as follows.

To get the printer's IP address, use the printer's menu:
Menu > Info > Connectivity > Wi-Fi
and note the IP address (ex: 192.168.0.19)
and optionally Print Details for report

Determine the printer's PIN number, by flipping the front panel of the printer open, as would when replacing inkjet cartridges, and note the PIN # on the label on the inside of the front panel.

Start your web browser (Edge, Chrome, FireFox, etc.) and enter the printer's IP address, using this format:
http://192.168.0.19
If a security risk warning message is displayed, acknowledge the risk and proceed anyway (varies depending on web browser being used).
In the printer's now displayed web page:
Print > Default Print Options > enter the PIN # > Sign In
and set Paper Tray to Tray 2
and set Paper Type to Plain Paper
and click Apply

It looks like you've found a detailed method to set the default paper tray for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e, which is great! Here’s a concise summary and additional tips for anyone wanting to follow your steps:

How to Set Default Paper Tray to Tray 2 on HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e

Get Printer IP Address:

  • On the printer, navigate to Menu > Info > Connectivity > Wi-Fi to find the IP address (e.g., 192.168.0.19).

Find Printer PIN:

  • Open the front panel of the printer to access the label that contains the PIN number.

Access the Embedded Web Server:

  • Open a web browser (like Edge, Chrome, or Firefox).
  • Enter the printer’s IP address in the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.0.19).
  • If you receive a security warning, acknowledge it to proceed.

Change Default Settings:

  • Go to Print > Default Print Options.
  • Enter the PIN number when prompted to sign in.
  • Set Paper Tray to Tray 2 and Paper Type to Plain Paper.
  • Click Apply to save the changes.

Additional Tips
