Hi @Fmo23

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when you want control over firmware updates but the option appears locked to “Automatic.” You’ve already checked the printer’s settings carefully, which shows real persistence.

Let’s go through the available ways to manage this on your OfficeJet Pro 9012e.

1. Check the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • On your printer, print a Network Configuration Page (usually from the Setup or Wireless menu).
  • Note the IP address.
  • Enter the IP address into a web browser on your computer to open the EWS.
  • Navigate to the Tools or Printer Updates section.
  • If available, disable “Automatic Updates” here.

2. Use the HP App on your computer

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer → Settings → Advanced Settings.
  • This redirects you to the EWS where firmware update preferences may be adjusted.

3. Block updates through Windows settings

  • On your Windows PC, go to Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options.
  • Turn off “Receive updates for other Microsoft products.”
  • This prevents firmware updates from being pushed automatically through Windows Update.

4. Manual update control

  • Even if automatic updates are locked, you can choose not to run manual updates.
  • Firmware files are only applied when downloaded and executed, so avoiding manual installation ensures the printer stays on its current version.

By using the EWS or adjusting Windows Update settings, you can reduce or stop automatic firmware upgrades. You’ve already taken the right step by checking the printer’s menu—these additional paths should give you more control.
