The ink cartridge in my HP printer worked fine until an update was loaded into my HP computer.  The error message is I have an incompatible print cartridge.  It is NOT an incompatibility problem.  This happen periodically when HP tries to prevent me from using non-HP cartridges.  It's a made-up issue making it impossible for me to use my printer.  I will buy a new non-HP printer before I buy HP brand ink.  And I will buy a new non-HP computer when I am ready to upgrade the one I have.  How do I fix this artificially created problem?

Hello @CaseyK33 , how are you ?

Please, try the procedures below:

HP ink cartridge issues including, incompatible, missing and not recognized errors | HP® Support

Step 1: Hard reset the printer
  • Turn the printer on.
  • With the printer still on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet, then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer on, if it doesn't start automatically.

Step 2: Reinstall and clean the cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.

  • Remove the cartridge that is causing the error.
  • Ensure any protective plastic tape has been removed from a new cartridge.
  • Wipe the copper-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Also, gently clean the contacts inside the printer carriage with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly into its correct slot until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat these steps for any other cartridges.
  • Close the cartridge access door and try printing a test page.

Best regards
