HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a LaserJet MFP Pro M28-M31, and I can't figure out how to change the print resolution for printing photos. The default resolution for printing photos from Windows Explorer seems to be 600dpi, and I can't change it. I don't need these photos to be printed at this high a resolution (I'm printing them on plain paper), but I can't find a way to change it. I've looked everywhere, but I can't find any mention of the printer resolution anywhere in the software controls. I have about a zillion photos to print, and the machine is eating toner like there's no tomorrow.

The print window that opens when I go to print from Explorer (I took a screenshot, which I can send) shows a Quality drop down box, with a default value of "FastRes600" (which I assume is 600dpi), but when I click the arrow, there aren't any other options available.

I don't have this problem with my inkjet (OfficeJet 6100); it's perfectly happy to change the resolution, but printing photos on an inkjet is tiresome because you have to wait for the ink to dry completely.

Thanks,

Alice

@AliceDB, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see you want to change the print resolution. You may make this change in the print settings in the app you are using to print.

It also depends on the app that you are using to print.

You may choose from Draft, Normal and Best modes of printing. However, you will not have an option to change the dpi values.

Refer to - HP print settings guide (Windows, Mac) - Print quality and improvement settings

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
