I need to use a printer in a private office where the only available network uses a splash page for users to accept terms before being connected. I have not been able to get the printer setup to complete (eg, cannot link the printer in the hp smart app on my phone). Is there any workaround for this situation?

I should clarify. The network is WPA protected, and I have the password. The Wi-Fi icon on the printer shows solid (with no exclamation mark) after providing it the network id and password. however, it refuses to finish setup and shows as “offline” or “unavailable” in the hp smart app. I don’t know for sure, but I am assuming this is because it’s connected to the router but NOT connected to the internet.

Hi @djphd,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering issues with connecting your HP printer to a guest Wi-Fi network with a splash page. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Ensure Proper Network Configuration: Make sure that you've correctly entered the network ID (SSID) and password for the guest Wi-Fi network on your printer. Double-check for any typos.
  • Check Connectivity: As you mentioned, the printer is likely connected to the router but not to the internet due to the splash page. To verify this, try printing a network configuration page from the printer. This will show the printer's IP address and connectivity status. If it has an IP address but no internet connection, it might be stuck at the splash page.
  • Bypass Splash Page: Guest Wi-Fi networks with splash pages typically require users to open a web browser and accept terms or provide additional information before gaining internet access. Printers often struggle with this step. One workaround is to temporarily connect your computer or smartphone to the guest network, open a web browser, and go through the splash page process. Once successfully connected, disconnect and reconnect to your regular network. Sometimes printers can piggyback on this temporary access.
  • MAC Address Filtering: Some networks use MAC address filtering, which restricts access to devices based on their MAC addresses. Make sure your printer's MAC address is allowed on the guest network if such filtering is in place.
  • Contact Network Administrator: If you're still unable to connect, reach out to the administrator of the guest Wi-Fi network. They might be able to provide further assistance or adjust network settings to accommodate your printer.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully connect your HP printer to the guest Wi-Fi network, even with a splash page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
