I recently bought a new MAcBook Air.  I use a USB plug to print to my printer.  When I attempt to print, it looks as if it is about to print.  The icon shows up and then disappears as if it already printed.  I know that my laptop and printer are not reading/connecting to each other because when I ask for the ink levels of the printer, my laptop says no information found.

Is my old faithful printer not able to communicate with my new MacBook Air?  I don't want to buy a new printer if possible.

Thank you for trying to help.  Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work.  My printer is a HP DeskJet F4500 Series and my laptop is a Macbook Air. Laptop OS is Ventura 13.3.1.
