HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 All-in-One Printer

I need help getting my MacBook Air (Mac OS Sonoma 14.2) to print anything,  Black & White or Color. Is there a simple way, like every other printer I've ever owned?

Hi @INalt ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to set up your HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 printer to print from your MacBook Air running macOS Sonoma 14.2 should be straightforward.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

  • Connect Your Printer: Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Air. Follow the instructions that came with your printer to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Install Printer Drivers: macOS usually includes drivers for many printers, but for some models like the HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 series, you might need to install additional drivers or software. Visit the HP website and navigate to the support section. Look for the drivers/software specifically designed for macOS Sonoma 14.2 and download them onto your MacBook Air. • Install Printer Software: Once the drivers are downloaded, double-click the installer file to begin the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. This software will help your MacBook Air communicate with your HP Smart Tank printer.
  • Add the Printer: After the installation is complete, go to System Preferences on your MacBook Air. Then, click on "Printers & Scanners."
  • Click the "+" Button: In the Printers & Scanners window, click on the "+" button located at the bottom left corner. This will open the "Add Printer or Scanner" window.
  • Select Your Printer: Your HP Smart Tank printer should appear in the list of available printers. Select it.
  • Complete the Setup: Once you've selected your printer, macOS will attempt to install the necessary drivers automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup process.
  • Test Print: After the setup is complete, try printing a test page to ensure that everything is working correctly. You can do this by opening any document or image on your MacBook Air, selecting the Print option, and choosing your HP Smart Tank printer from the list of available printers.
