How do I get promised HP printer driver CD?

Hello, I've just joined the Community!

I've just purchased a new HP Envy Photo 6220 printer. I'm reading the instructions and it says if I go to www.support.hp.com I can order a printer software CD, which is what I would prefer.

But when I go there and select Printer, my printer make etc there are downloadable options, but nothing about how to get a CD.

I am on a metered internet connection and have to be careful about using too much data, so I just want a CD.

How do I get one, and if the CD for my printer isn't available and the drivers have to be downloaded why does HP say in the instructions that I can obtain a CD?

Welcome to the HP Community.

I am sorry you are using a metered connection. 

The "metered connection" limitation does make everything more complicated, I think.

There is no CD for this software.

I am not defending whatever you have read - there is simply no CD to order.

The instructions or promise of a non-existent CD are perhaps just out of date.

True - the reasons do not matter.

You'll have to download and save the installation package if you want to install the printer software.

If you cannot do that, ask a friend to download the package and copy it to a USB stick for you.

Hi, thanks for that. I had a feeling I wouldn't get a CD!

I will have a go at downloading the driver you recommended. I'm pleased you did, because there were a few showing and I wasn't sure which one to download but you have also answered my next question!

You are welcome.

Know this:

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software package you will download should install OK.

That said, if it does not do so, use the more "common" and updated method;

Download and Save the Easy Start Software wrapper and let it find and load your printer software.

Be sure you select (when it comes time) the Full Driver.

Note the wrapper software is tiny - it won't over burden your metered connection limitation.

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software not installed?

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

• Home Page - HP Easy Start 
• Open Category Software and Drivers 
• Topic: Software-Utility 
• Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software 
• If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.

• Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation

• When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
• If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
• After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
5. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.
