HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased the HP 9120e all in one printer and don't see OCR as an option on the HP Scan menu.  I have installed the universal scan with no results and I can't find a separate driver on the list for OCR

Thank you.

OK - This printer is one of the new OfficeJet Pro 91xxe printers that includes an option to enable the HP+ service.

HP+ is not a subscription -- it is a service package that provides access to additional printer features, including the coveted OCR (Save as editable text).

You need NOT sign up for HP+ to get OCR.

OCR is available online as a free service (as long as you trust they won't steal your information) or as a purchase from one of the suppliers (Adobe, for example).

If you wish to do that, you are done - no more reading.

If you continue...

There is a lot here - some of the information is repeated both to maintain context or to emphasis importance.

The services discussed hereafter include legal contracts that need your attention and consideration before you sign up.

Read, ignore, or use what you think is important to your situation.

The short version >>

Sign up for HP+ service >> OCR plus other features will be included in your HP Smart application.

HP Instant Ink is an optional and -- importantly -- separate service.

Important

I do not speak for HP and I certainly do not represent HP interest in any legal or contracted service.

The following is provided FYI only and is meant to help you sift through the documents and the how-to.

Information for HP+ service contract

and

The separate contract for Instant Ink subscription

HP+ refers to an optional contract for Service and Benefits available on select "e" Printers.

Signing up requires deliberate action on the part of the customer.

HP+ is an optional service contract that includes both benefits and responsibilities.

HP+ in a broader sense might appear - at least from a customer's perspective - to include HP Instant Ink.

HP Instant Ink is also a contract --

This time the contract is for a service:  Print-by-Page Subscription to Instant Ink service plan

Instant Ink subscription requires acceptance of the service and a credit card to secure the plan.

HP+ is not, to my knowledge, something you can disregard once accepted.

"Yeah, but " Objections? Questions?  Contact HP+ to ask questions about any options.

Requirements for HP+ printers

This topic describes the requirements for HP+ printers.

Keep the printer connected to the Internet

HP+ printers are cloud-connected devices that must remain connected to the Internet in order to function. The
Internet connection enables the printer to deliver HP+ specific app features and firmware updates.

During setup, you must connect the printer to the Internet using a supported network connection. After setup,
you can print using a USB cable connection, if desired, but the printer must still be connected to the Internet.

Use Original HP cartridges

Original HP cartridges are cartridges manufactured and sold by HP in official HP packaging. If non-Original HP
supplies or refilled cartridges are installed, HP+ printers will not operate as expected.

Have an HP account

Create or sign into an HP account to manage your printer.

Are you saying that OCR scanning is only available in HP+?

@SAVPrint

You are welcome.

I will try to clarify.

OCR (Save as Editable Text) and other specialty Scan options are available from HP for selected Printers that are eligible for HP+

================================================

If you accept the HP+ service agreement and enable HP+, then OCR  (Save as Editable Text) and other specialty scan options will be made available as described in my first post.

================================================

If you do not wish to accept the service contract for HP+,  you have the option of obtaining or purchasing OCR software from a source / merchant of your choice.

Thank you for clarifying that.  I think it is a bummer that HP is tying the use of OCR to their HP+ program.

You are welcome.

True - if the HP option is out of reach for any reason, the solution is to get the OCR software for yourself.
