May not come with OCR software.

Plenty of Free OCR software on the web.

Free OCR

http://www.paperfile.net/index.html

OCR to Word

http://www.ocrtoword.com/

Both work great.

Hi,
The software provided for your device does not include OCR functionality
As you may find listed within the Scan file format section, text files as TXT or RTF are not supported by the HP software:
http://store.hp.com/us/en/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer

You may use any 3rd part OCR solution to scan as editable text.

If you have Microsoft Office suite there is a good chance the office suite provide this kind of capabilities:

Office 2007 or 2010:

Office 2003:

The link for OCRtoWord takes you to a site to download the program.  Problem is that the program is loaded with malware - identified by Bitdefender and Malwarebytes.
