I guess what you're trying to tell me is that the unwanted emails are because my printer is associated with HP Smart.
OK, I've removed my printer from HP Smart. Hopefully the emails will stop.
One question: What is HP Smart and why was it included in the package of software that came with the printer? What features will I lose by removing my printer from HP Smart?
Thank you.

HP smart app ( default App from mic Microsoft ) is an alternate printer software tool.
where you can add the printer to it & start using the print functions
Since you have uninstalled it, you will have to go back to installing the full feature driver from the hp website n use it
Your print job will not be affected by removing hp smart app
Download and install the software and drivers from here.
Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
