Hi @HappyHorse,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To reset the admin security password for your HP LaserJet Pro M118dw after a factory reset, follow these steps:

Resetting the Admin Password

Access the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Find the Printer's IP Address:
    • Print a configuration page to find the IP address.
      1. Press and hold the Resume button (the button with the green light and a down arrow) for 3 seconds to print a configuration page.
      2. Look for the IPv4 address on the printed page.
  • Open a Web Browser:
    • Enter the printer's IP address into the web browser's address bar to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Login to EWS

  • Default Admin Password:
    • If the printer was recently reset to factory settings, try the default admin credentials:
      • Username: admin Password: (Leave it blank or use "admin")
    • If a default password is not working, it may be set by the factory or previous admin.

Reset Admin Password through EWS

  • Navigate to Security Settings:
    • Once logged in, go to the Settings or Security tab.
  • Change Password:
    • Find the option to change the password and set a new admin password. Ensure you remember this password for future access.

If You Cannot Access EWS

If you're unable to access the EWS with the default or known credentials, you may need to perform a more in-depth reset:

Network Reset Method:

  • Restore Network Settings:
    • Power on the printer.Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button for 20 seconds.
    • The printer will restart and reset network settings to factory defaults.
  • Reconnect to Network:
    • Reconnect your printer to the network and try accessing the EWS again using the steps above.

Factory Reset from Control Panel:

  • Sometimes a full factory reset might be required if you're locked out:
    • Turn off the printer.Turn it back on and hold the Resume button for 20 seconds. This should restore the printer to its factory settings, including the admin password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
