How the hell do you change settings so each time I print i don't have to change it from color to b&w, change from high quality to draft and most annoying, change from glossy paper to plain?

I've gone thru everything And even called HP but they said it can't be done And I must change every tkme

Hi @Gypsy209,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Changing default print settings can be a bit tricky depending on your printer model and the operating system you're using. It's surprising to hear that HP said it couldn’t be done, as typically you can set defaults on most of their models. Let’s go through some steps to try to set your default printing preferences to black and white, draft quality, and plain paper. These instructions are generally for Windows, as it’s the most common OS, but if you’re using a Mac, let me know and I can give you specific instructions for that too.

For Windows Users

Open Control Panel: You can do this by typing "Control Panel" in the search box on the taskbar and clicking on the result.

View Devices and Printers: Under "Hardware and Sound", click on "View devices and printers".

Adjust Printing Preferences:

  • Right-click on your HP printer icon and select "Printing preferences" from the context menu.
  • A dialog box will open with various tabs like Layout, Paper/Quality, etc.
  • Go to the Paper/Quality tab and select "Plain Paper" in the paper type field and "Black & White" in the color options.
  • Switch to the Quality settings (sometimes found under a different tab or a button labeled as "Advanced") and select "Draft" or a similar option.

Apply and OK: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save these settings as the new default.

For Specific Applications

Some applications, like Adobe Reader or Microsoft Word, have their own print settings that override the printer defaults. You'll need to set these preferences within each application you use. Typically, you can find these settings under "Print" in the file menu where you can select the printer properties and adjust them as needed before printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
