Hi,

Brand new setup.  How do I get my computer operating system to acknowledge this printer?  I have Linux - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Hi @NWIllinois,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To set up your printer on a system running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, follow these steps:

Check Compatibility:

  • Ensure your printer model is compatible with Linux. HP generally provides good support for printers under Linux environments via the HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) software.

Install HPLIP:

  • Open the Terminal. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T.
  • Enter the following command to update your package list:sudo apt update
  • Install HPLIP using:sudo apt install hplip

Connect Your Printer:

  • Physically connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable, or ensure it's connected to the same network if it's a network printer.

Run HPLIP Setup:

  • Run the HPLIP setup by entering the following command in the Terminal:hp-setup
  • This will open a graphical setup wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your printer. You'll select the type of connection (USB/Wireless), and it will detect the printer automatically.

Test the Printer:

  • Once the setup is complete, try printing a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
