How do I setup printer via hard-wiring rather than wi-fi?  I have an HP Deskjet 1010 printer ... trying to get ink level readings.  I've had printer 5 years, works fine.  NOT set-up to wi-fi ... using USB cable.  I am using the HP Smart App and it DOES recognize my printer, but says it is "Off-Line".  Printer works fine from my APACHE Open Office 4 ... No problem printing, but UNABLE to find how to get INK LEVELS.  Can someone help?  Many thanks!

I wish you would walk me thru this.  There are NO buttons on my printer.  Only button is POWER button.  I'm NOT using Wi-Fi, I'm using a USB cable.  The hp Smart App want to use the Wi-Fi, and does identify the printer, but NOT the ink levels.  Still at a loss!

Thank you for your help ... going along just fine, downloaded, then wants to connect to internet.  Says there's NO connection.  I can talk to you, but my printer cannot talk thru the internet.  At age 70, I do NOT know what that means.  (sad frowney)

Hi I have a n HP Office Jet 8020e series and I do nit have internet at home. Ethernet only. DO I need an ethernet plugged into bot my laptop and my printer? Or cant I just print a word doc offline with the USB plugged in laptop and into the printer? Why is this not working for me? Help!!
